The South Jakarta Maritime, Food Security, and Agricultural (KPKP) Sub-agency has sterilized 441 male and female cats during the July 2026 period.

Maintain Jakarta as a rabies-free area

Head Section of Animal Husbandry and Health of the Sub-agency, Irawati Harry Artharini said sterilization is carried out to suppress the cat population, especially stray cats in residential areas.

"This is also our effort to maintain Jakarta as a rabies-free area," she said, Monday (8/3).

Irawati explained that the 441 cats that were successfully sterilized consisted of 234 male cats and 207 female cats.

Sterilization locations during this period included the Pancoran Fire Handling and Rescue Office and the House of Tea in Gandaria Selatan. The agency collaborated with a veterinary clinic in South Jakarta for this activity.

"We carry out the sterilization method using Trap Nature Return (TNR) in collaboration with the Environmental Care Foundation (YPLI), animal lovers, PDHI and others," she explained.

She stated that her party will continue to intensify cat sterilization throughout 2026 with a target of 2,500 cats.

"Hopefully the public will be more enthusiastic about our presence in helping to sterilize cats," she hoped.
