BMKG Says Heavy Rain to Fall Three Days Ahead

The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) said on Saturday (6/18) that they issued a weather early warning in Indonesia. Rain that pours Jakarta and its surroundings will remain happen with medium-heavy intensity in three days ahead.

Deputy of Meteorology Division for BMKG, Yunus S. Swarinoto said, heavy rain will happen until June 20. Based on a review of atmospheric conditions, there are some indications about potential emergence of heavy rain in Indonesia.

"Heavy rain will pour Indonesia within three days ahead in some regions, including Jakarta," he stated, in a short message.

Heavy Rain will Pour in One Week, BMKG Predicts

He continued such condition is due to warm sea temperatures above normal waters of western Indonesia. Besides that, it is also triggered by the influx of the mass flow of moist air from the Indian Ocean in Indonesian maritime continent and Australia's weak cold air mass flow in Indonesia.

"It's predicted it gives contribution to the increase in precipitation," he stated.

In addition to the slowdown area, the meeting and the wind turns in Sumatra and Kalimantan, resulting in unstable atmospheric conditions thereby increasing the potential for lightning and high winds.

He predicts rain will hit some regions in Indonesia, such as Jakarta, Banten, West Jawa, Central Jawa, Yogyakarta, East Jawa, Aceh, North Sumatera, West Sumatera, Riau, Bengkulu, Bangka Belitung, South Sumatera, Lampung, West Kalimantan, Central Kalimantan, East Kalimantan, North Kalimantan, Maluku and Papua. 

Yunus added, people are encouraged to increase awareness on the disasters potential that may arise, such as floods, flash floods, landslides, puddles and fallen trees.

"Operators of marine transportation services can also be alert to the potential for heavy rain and high waves that are likely to occur in southern waters of Sumatra, Java to Bali-East Nusa Tenggara," he finished.
