Pramono Orders Crackdown on Heartless Medics Mocking BPJS Patients

The Jakarta government, through its Health Agency, is set to issue stern warnings to healthcare workers who mock or belittle patients using the BPJS Kesehatan insurance.

The move comes after a wave of public outrage on social media regarding insensitive comments made by medical staff toward a BPJS patient, who reportedly passed away shortly after.

Addressing the controversy at City Hall on Friday (8/7), Governor Pramono Anung emphasized that such behavior will not be tolerated.

"I have seen (the posts), and I will instruct the Health Agency to reprimand anyone caught ridiculing BPJS Kesehatan users," he stated firmly.

He emphasized that access to healthcare through BPJS is a right enshrined in law. For Jakarta, health stands as a top priority alongside education.

Consequently, he reaffirmed the Jakarta government’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding these two fundamental public needs.

"In fact, for Jakarta, these are the sectors I protect most fiercely: education and health," Pramono stated.

He has instructed the Head of the Health Agency and related officials to immediately investigate the incident and issue stern warnings to those involved in such disgraceful behavior.

"I am asking the Head of Health Agency and Ms. Premi to study this case thoroughly, take necessary action, and send a clear message to anyone engaging in these acts," he stated.

The incident comes as a blow to Jakarta’s massive healthcare infrastructure. Currently, the Jakarta government operates a vast network of 31 hospitals, 44 community health centers (Puskesmas), and 292 auxiliary health centers, supported by tens of thousands of dedicated medical professionals.
