A total of 80 personnel from various agencies took part in a clean-up to dredge a drainage channel along Jalan Lapangan Tembak, RT 03/10, Kelapa Dua Wetan Urban Village, Ciracas, East Jakarta, on Friday (8/7).
Sediment has built up significantly
The activity involved personnel from the urban village and sub-district administrations, the Water Resources (SDA) Task Force, Public Works, Transportation, Satpol PP, Fire and Rescue (Gulkarmat), PPSU, Parks and Forestry (Tamhut), RT and RW administrators, LMK, FKDM, as well as one excavator to remove sediment from the Olakan Kali Caglak area.
Taman Pendidikan IV Drainage Repair to Complete this MonthEast Jakarta Economic and Development Assistant Fauzi said the clean-up was carried out to prevent flooding in the area during the rainy season.
According to him, sediment in the drainage channel had built up to one meter deep and could cause flooding if not cleared.
"While it is still the dry season, we are stepping up efforts to clear drainage channels where sediment has built up significantly," Fauzi added.
Ciracas Sub-district Head Panangaran Ritonga said his team deployed a mini backhoe to remove the sediment and two dump trucks to transport it to an area around Rambutan Reservoir.
"We are making the most of today. If the work is not completed, we will continue next week," Ritonga said.
Ritonga added that the work also included pruning several trees and tidying up overhead cables in the area.
PPSU personnel will also develop a park along the roadside to make the area more attractive.
"After the sediment is dredged and loaded onto the dump trucks, Gulkarmat personnel will wash away any mud left on the road and sidewalks," he said.
