Pramono Eyes League Glory as Quincentenary Gift for Jakarta

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has officially voiced his hope for Persija to be crowned champions of the 2026-2027 Indonesia Super League (ISL). This target is not just about football—it is intended to be the crowning glory for Jakarta as it celebrates its monumental 500th anniversary.

Persija can deliver the ultimate birthday present for Jakarta’s 500th anniversary

Pramono shared this ambitious vision during the Bank Jakarta and Persija Jakarta Collaboration Kick-Off, which also featured the launch of Bank Jakarta’s new website at Suropati Park, Menteng, Central Jakarta, Monday (8/10).

"I am confident that through this collaboration and meticulous preparation for the upcoming season, Persija can deliver the ultimate birthday present for Jakarta’s 500th anniversary," he expressed.

He also highlighted the arrival of head coach Shin Tae-yong this season as a catalyst for renewed hope. He expressed his optimism that Shin’s leadership would foster team synergy and elevate the squad's performance to a championship level.

While Persija is set to celebrate its own centenary (100th anniversary) in 2028, Pramono is pushing for the league trophy to be lifted a year earlier, in 2027, to coincide with the city's quincentenary milestone.

According to him, Persija is the heartbeat of the city. Achieving this goal is about more than just a trophy; it is about fulfilling the pride of the people.

"My efforts are solely dedicated to ensuring the comfort, happiness, and unwavering support of Jakarta’s football-loving community for Persija," he emphasized.

Persija Jakarta Head Coach Shin Tae-yong expressed his firm belief that this new collaboration will be a game-changer for the squad. He emphasized that his mission in Jakarta is clear: to lead Persija to the podium and bring pride to the city’s residents.

To bolster the team’s depth, he revealed plans to recruit two or three additional players to the current roster. Furthermore, the "Kemayoran Tigers" are set to fly to Thailand shortly for an intensive pre-season training camp to sharpen their edge ahead of the league.

Reflecting on the team's recent performance in the President's Cup, Shin noted that fans have yet to see the team's true potential.

"Reflecting on the President's Cup, we were only at 40 percent strength. I believe that when the government, the public, the club, and the fans unite their vision, becoming champions is an achievable goal," he stated.
