September 2026, Alfa Indah Channel Dredging Completed

The South Jakarta City administration is taking strategic measures to mitigate flood risks ahead of the rainy season. A key part of this initiative involves the optimized dredging of the Alfa Indah Connecting Channel along the Jalan Taman Alfa Indah segment in Petukangan Utara, Pesanggrahan. This project is slated for completion by September 2026.

This dredging is vital to restoring its holding capacity

South Jakarta Mayor Syafrin Liputo has identified the Pesanggrahan Sub-district as a strategic frontline in the city's battle against flooding.

"This dredging is vital to restoring its holding capacity and ensuring a smooth flow of water," he expressed, Monday (8/10).

The situation is critical; massive sedimentation has caused severe shallowing, with mud deposits filling nearly 90 percent of the channel in specific spots, such as underpasses and bridges.

"With the dry season still in effect, we are acting fast. By clearing these mud deposits now, we are ensuring that the infrastructure is ready to handle peak water volumes when the heavy rains return," he explained.

His party is also coordinating with the West Jakarta City administration to ensure a seamless water flow from upstream to downstream.

"Once the work at Taman Alfa area is complete, we will sync with our counterparts in West Jakarta to extend the dredging downstream. This ensures the water moves continuously toward the final discharge point," he continued.

Therefore, residents are urged to play an active role in maintaining the functionality of the city's drainage systems by refraining from littering, especially into the waterways. They are also requested to avoid covering or obstructing drains and to remain proactive in reporting any drainage issues within their respective neighborhoods.

"We have done the work of campaigning for waste sorting—now we need your collaboration. Please, do not dispose of trash recklessly. Our drainage system is not a place for garbage," he stressed.

South Jakarta Water Resources Sub-agency Head, Santo, reported that the dredging of the Alfa Indah Channel aims for a total sediment removal volume of 1,207 cubic meters, spanning from the West Jakarta border to Jalan Taman Alfa Indah.

Thus far, it has successfully cleared 656 cubic meters, reaching approximately 54 percent of its total target.

"To speed up it, we have deployed specialized heavy equipment, including two amphibious excavators and one spider excavator, supported by a fleet of 10 dump trucks," Santo explained.

The personnel have also implemented a strategic transit system to maximize the efficiency of transporting excavated sediment and waste before it is hauled to the final disposal site in Ancol.

"Currently, the dredged materials are temporarily moved to the Deplu Warehouse. If we were to transport them to Ancol, each truck could only manage one trip per day. However, with this transit system, our logistics efficiency has tripled, allowing for three to four trips per day," he added.

Santo aims to have the entire Alfa Indah dredging process finalized by September 2026. This timeline is strategic, ensuring the channel’s capacity is fully restored and optimized before the onset of the rainy season.

"We're hopeful that all dredging work will be wrapped up before the rainy season begins. Our team is committed to working at peak performance every single day to meet this goal," he concluded.
