Pramono Anung Vows Stern Action Over Religious Desecration Incident

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung strongly condemned a viral advertisement for alcoholic beverages that used Al-Qur'an memorization as a promotional challenge.

This kind of incident must not happen in Jakarta

He asserted that the Jakarta government would not tolerate such actions and would impose strict sanctions.

"I am asking the Assistant for People's Welfare to coordinate a swift and firm response. This kind of incident must not happen in Jakarta," he expressed, during a press briefing at City Hall, Wednesday (8/12).

Commission E Enlists Religious Leaders to Fight Drugs and Violence

For a long time, the Jakarta government and all elements of the community have worked hard to foster harmony between religious groups in the capital through diverse religious programs.

Thereby, he considers the alcohol promotion a serious affront to the religious concord that has been well-maintained in public life. Pramono deeply lamented that such a situation occurred.

"The viral promotion of alcoholic beverages, particularly when linked to religious practice, seriously blights the religious atmosphere that we all protect together in Jakarta," he added.

The issue first gained widespread attention on social media following a controversial promotional campaign by an alcohol brand. The promotion involved a challenge where patrons were asked to recite Al-Qur'an verses; specifically, those able to recite Surah Ad-Dhuha would receive the liquor for free.
