Private Waste Dumping Operator in Cilincing Faces Strict Sanctions

The Jakarta Provincial Government will take firm action against the private entity managing unauthorized waste disposal at an illegal dump site in Nagrak, specifically on Jalan Reformasi/Inspeksi Kirana, in Cilincing, North Jakarta.

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has instructed his staff to halt the granting of permits to the private sector for waste management.

"I call upon the relevant regional government agencies to take firm action, dismiss the individual concerned, and impose sanctions," said Pramono.

According to preliminary reports, the waste entering the illegal Nagrak disposal site originates from hotels, restaurants, and cafes (Horeka), rather than from the households of local residents.

Meanwhile, the status of the waste disposal site remains in dispute between PT Granito and the late Mrs. Nyusi.

Pramono stated that disclosing the name of the private company served as a form of sanction imposed by the Jakarta Provincial Government. The company collected waste from the Hotel, Restaurant, and Café sector and charged fees for its services, yet it lacked the necessary waste management permit for the site.

"I have instructed the Communication, Informatics, and Statistics Agency and relevant agencies that, whoever is responsible for this, they must, first and foremost, be publicly identified. What I am doing now is part of that public announcement," added Pramono.

As for information, the pile of waste at the illegal dump site in Nagrak, Cilincing, is estimated to cover 5.8 hectares and is not an official dump site of the Jakarta Provincial Government.

After ceasing to be used as an alternative waste disposal site around 2015–2016, the Jakarta Provincial Government halted landfilling operations there and diverted waste to the Bantargebang Integrated Waste Treatment Site (TPST).
