Street Vendors in Bangka Urged Not to Occupy Public Facilities

The South Jakarta Public Order Agency (Satpol PP) has asked street vendors not to sell their goods on the roadside of Jalan Taman Kemang and Jalan Kemang Raya in Bangka Urban Village, Mampang Prapatan District.

Head of South Jakarta Satpol PP, Nanto Dei Subekti said the illegal street vendors selling along the roadside disrupts the convenience of road users by causing traffic congestion.

"We have followed up on complaints from road users, such as those that went viral on social media, by deploying personnel to clear away vendors at the location," he said, Thursday (8/13).

Nanto explained that the joint team of Satpol PP, the Transportation Agency, and other relevant entities is so far continuing to prioritize a persuasive approach.

"We have asked vendors not to set up stalls or sell goods on the roadside or sidewalk," he explained.

According to him, the stalls used by the vendors are temporary. Nevertheless, their presence is still considered to hinder public mobility, as they occupy space that should be accessible to vehicles.

To prevent street vendors from returning to sell at the location, periodic monitoring will be conducted by officials at the district and urban village levels.

Meanwhile, a local resident, Suhendra, hopes that the monitoring of street vendors will be carried out regularly, as they are likely to resume trading if enforcement by officials is not consistent.

"The government must take a firm stance and implement solutions regarding illegal street vendors so that our environment becomes neater and more organized," he admitted.
