Transjakarta Commits to Transport Equality Across the Seribu Islands

In a major move toward transport equality, Jakarta is set to overhaul how residents of the Seribu Islands travel. The city’s water transportation services, previously managed by the Jakarta Transportation Agency, are planned to be handed over to PT Transportasi Jakarta (Transjakarta).

This assignment is a clear directive to erase the distance

Acting on a mandate from Governor Pramono Anung, the policy aims to create a seamless and professional transit link between Jakarta’s mainland and its northern archipelago.

This plan has sparked optimism among Seribu Islands residents. For years, they have looked to Transjakarta’s land-based reputation as a benchmark, and they are now eager to see the same level of reliability, safety, and affordability brought to their waters.

Transjakarta Prepares to Manage Transportation in Seribu Islands Next Year

Transjakarta President Director Welfizon Yuza affirmed the company’s full readiness to take on this strategic assignment. He emphasized, integrating transportation services in Seribu Islands is a vital step in ensuring every Jakarta resident can exercise their right to reliable, affordable, safe, and seamless transit.

"We deeply understand what this means to the community in Seribu Islands. This assignment is a clear directive to erase the distance and ensure equity for all Jakarta residents. We're prepared to bring Transjakarta’s signature standards of reliability and affordability to the archipelago,” he noted, Monday (8/24).

As the transition moves forward, Transjakarta is conducting a thorough assessment of all current water transport assets, including the existing fleet of Transportation Agency vessels.

This comprehensive review will pave the way for a strategic revitalization plan, focusing on top-tier safety and punctuality. It aims to create a unified system that bridges the islands and the mainland, making travel effortless for all residents.

“This integration is about more than just transport; it’s about fueling economic growth and tourism while improving the quality of life across the board. It reinforces Jakarta’s vision as a truly inclusive global city," he explaiend.

Earlier, a high-level delegation—consisting of Jakarta Transportation Agency Deputy Head, Ujang Harmawan; Transjakarta President Director, Welfizon Yuza; and Jakarta Regional BUMD Development Agency (BPBUMD) Head—conducted a working visit to Pramuka, Panggang, Kelapa, and Harapan islands on Saturday (8/22).

The series of activities kicked off at the Panggang Island Urban Village Office with a high-level audience involving Seribu Islands Regent, Muhammad Fadjar Churniawan, and local community figures. Beyond discussions, the team conducted on-site technical evaluations of the docks and port infrastructure managed by the Regional Port Management Unit (UPPD), ensuring that every facility is ready for future integration.
