The simultaneous planting of food crops serving as rice alternatives in East Jakarta was run across 112 locations spanning 10 districts. This initiative is part of efforts to strengthen food security while boosting local food production in the East Jakarta area.

The simultaneous planting event was led directly by the Chairwoman of the East Jakarta City Family Welfare Empowerment (TP PKK) team, Essie Feransie Munjirin, with the main location at the urban farming plot of the Delima Women Farmers Group (KWT) located in the courtyard of the Ciracas District Office of Religious Affairs (KUA) on Jalan Penganten Ali, AMD Alley, RT 12/06, Ciracas Urban Village, Ciracas District.

"This activity is expected to motivate us all to become more aware of the importance of supporting food self-sufficiency in Jakarta Province, particularly in East Jakarta," she said, Monday (8/31).
She detailed that the simultaneous planting initiative was carried out at 19 locations in Cakung District, 18 in Cipayung, 14 in Ciracas, 13 in Matraman, 11 in Jatinegara, nine in Duren Sawit, nine in Kramat Jati, seven in Pulo Gadung, seven in Makasar, and five in Pasar Rebo District.
"The planting locations comprise 35 vacant plots, 20 Child-Friendly Integrated Public Spaces (RPTRA), 18 farmer group sites, 16 public and social facility sites, 13 office buildings, six schools, and four home gardens or alleyways," she explained.
To support the program, the Jakarta Food Security, Marine, and Agriculture Agency (KPKP), through the Jakarta Seed Development and Plant Protection Center, provided assistance consisting of 600 sweet potato seedlings, 100 cassava seedlings, 70 banana seedlings, one kilogram of glutinous corn seeds, and one kilogram of sweet corn seeds.
"The East Jakarta Food Security, Marine, and Agriculture (KPKP) Sub-agency provided 309 kilograms of urea fertilizer, 309 kilograms of TSP fertilizer, 10 kilograms of glutinous corn seeds, and 10 kilograms of sweet corn seeds. Meanwhile, the Rumah Sosial Kutub Foundation provided assistance in the form of 200 porang bulbils," she detailed.
Meanwhile, Head of East Jakarta KPKP Sub-agency, Taufik Yulianto stated this simultaneous planting initiative for rice-alternative food crops is one of the East Jakarta City Government's measures to boost the production of foods that serve as alternatives to rice.
"Thanks to the East Jakarta TP PKK and the Kutub Social House Foundation," he stated.
He hoped that the planting activities at these various locations are expected to be more than just ceremonial. It must be sustainable and support household food security.
