The Chairwoman of the Central Jakarta Family Welfare Movement (TP PKK), Witri Yeni Arifin, led the planting of 4,682 rice-substitute crop trees on Monday (8/31) across 48 locations spanning eight districts.

Boost food security programs

Witri explained that this activity was carried out simultaneously across the city's five administrative areas and the Seribu Islands Regency, led by the Chairwoman of the Jakarta Family Welfare Empowerment (TP PKK) team.

Food Security through Simultaneous Planting in 187 Locations in South Jakarta

For the Central Jakarta area, Witri stated that planting was carried out at 10 "Taman Hatinya PKK" locations, 20 RPTRA sites, and 18 urban farming areas.

The various types of plants cultivated include 200 Porang plants, 101 sweet potato plants, 130 cassava plants, 70 banana plants, 105 corn plants, 1,120 water spinach plants, 1,620 bok choy plants, 950 spinach plants, 76 watercress plants, 310 tomato plants, chili peppers, eggplants, and melons, as well as 400 tilapia fingerlings.

"We are engaging neighborhood and community association officials as well as community leaders to boost food security programs in Central Jakarta," she said.

She hopes that these 48 simultaneous planting sites will become hubs of food security that continue to grow and benefit the residents.

Head of Central Jakarta KPKP Sub-agency, Siti Halimah stated her side provided support and plant seedlings to urban farming enthusiasts to realize a sustainable food security program.

"This initiative to plant crops alongside rice does not stop at 48 locations but will continue to expand in the future, aiming to contribute positively to economic growth while making Jakarta greener, healthier, and globally competitive," she admitted.
