Jakarta Vice Governor, Rano Karno, hopes that collaboration between the Jakarta Provincial Government and the National Creative Economy Movement (Gekrafs) can strengthen the creative economy (Ekraf) ecosystem in the capital.
We need a significant focus
This was conveyed by Rano when attending the inauguration of the Jakarta Regional Leadership Council (DPW) of Gekrafs at M Bloc Live House, Kebayoran Baru, South Jakarta.
Building a Global City, Jakarta Strengthens its Digital Creative WorkforceRano said that Gekrafs can help the Jakarta Provincial Government, especially the Tourism and Creative Economy Agency, in mapping and optimizing the creative economy potential in various areas of Jakarta.
"If we understand the meaning of a movement, it certainly requires significant effort. Jakarta is growing day by day, so we need a significant focus on developing various subsectors of the creative economy," said Rano, Saturday (9/5).
Rano explained that creative economic development needs to be carried out evenly and not solely concentrated in South Jakarta. Therefore, the existence of Gekrafs Branch Leadership Councils (DPC) in various regions is considered crucial to broaden the reach of this sector's development.
"The Jakarta Provincial Government is currently continuing to improve supporting infrastructure, public space management, and various aspects of performance licensing. These steps are being taken to promote Jakarta as a global city with a strong creative economy ecosystem," he explained.
According to him, the creative economy sector's contribution to Jakarta's economy. In the second quarter of 2026, Jakarta's economic growth was recorded at 5.52 percent, contributing 16.15 percent to the national economy. Meanwhile, the inflation rate in July 2026 was recorded at 2.5 percent.
"Jakarta's strength lies in its creative economy. Strengthening databases and cultural literacy, such as recording culinary specialties and fine arts, is key to ensuring this ecosystem continues to thrive and have an impact," he assessed.
Chairman of the DPP Gekrafs, Kawendra Lukistian stated that strengthening literacy and access to intellectual property-based financing is crucial for creative entrepreneurs.
"Gekrafs carries the 4L pillars, namely Literacy, the Birth of New Entrepreneurs, Wide Employment Opportunities, and Sustainable Creative Products as well as the eight Asta Karya programs to support the acceleration of national economic growth," he stated.
Meanwhile, Chairman of the Jakarta Gekrafs Regional Leadership Council (DPW), Farazandi Fidinansyah, emphasized that his rank is ready to actively collaborate with the Jakarta Provincial Government during the 2026-2029 management period, including in enlivening various agendas leading up to Jakarta's 500th anniversary.
He explained that the creative economy sector currently contributes around 10.8 to 11.15 percent to Jakarta's Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP), with the majority of this contribution coming from the culinary, fashion, and film subsectors.
"During the next three years of our management term, we are also committed to pushing for the presence of a Regional Regulation (Perda) on the Creative Economy in Jakarta together with the legislative body to strengthen the legal base which is currently still based on the Governor's Regulation," he admitted.
