Environment Agency Tightens Air Quality Monitoring Over Volcanic Ash Spread

The Jakarta Environmental Agency has tightened air quality monitoring to determine the impact of exposure to volcanic ash from Mount Anak Krakatau.

Adjusting resident protection measures

Head of Jakarta Environmental Agency, Dudi Gardesi, Sunday (9/6), said the level of volcanic ash exposure at the surface can vary between locations, so it needs to be assessed based on air quality measurements and conditions in the field.

For this reason, Dudi asked his rank to tighten monitoring of air quality, follow up on reports of ash deposits and strengthen coordination with BMKG, PVMBG, BPBD, and the Health Agency.

"Monitoring should be the basis for issuing warnings and adjusting resident protection measures," he said.

Dudi also asked his rank to deliver the monitoring results openly and in an easy to understand manner.

"Any changes in conditions must be followed immediately by information updates so residents know what steps to take. The protection of cleaning personnel in the field must also be ensured," he emphasized.

Dudi states that the public can monitor air quality conditions via udara.jakarta.go.id, as well as follow official updates from the DLH, BPBD, and BMKG.

"We urge residents to help family members and neighbors who need assistance to obtain information and assistance," he stated.
