Dispora Urged to Accelerate Preparations for the PON 2028

The Jakarta Youth and Sports Agency (Dispora) is being urged to accelerate preparations for the 22nd National Sports Week (PON) in 2028, which will be held in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) and West Nusa Tenggara (NTB). Jakarta has also been designated as a buffer zone for this event.

Chairman of Jakarta City Council's Commission E, M. Subki requested the agency to strengthen support for the provision of sports facilities for the community. He also emphasized the need to maintain and improve Jakarta's sporting achievements to compete at the event.

According to him, preparations for the PON 2028 need to start now, including planning and budgeting for programs to be implemented in 2027.
"Preparations are underway for 2027. Planning begins now. We've already planned what we'll be preparing for the PON 2028," he added.
He also asked the agency to optimize all preparations so that the Jakarta contingent can compete with other provinces.
"Don't let us lose to other provinces," he emphasized.
Previously, the Jakarta Provincial Government expressed its readiness to become a buffer zone for this sport event by preparing international-standard infrastructure, an integrated public transportation network, and improving a number of sports venues.
The designation of Jakarta as a buffer zone through Ministerial Decree No. 129/2024 includes plans to host 17 sports events utilizing the various sports facilities available in the capital. These events are also expected to have a multiplier effect on the local economy.
