South Jakarta BPBD Deploys Water Tankers to Assist Residents Affected by Drought

The South Jakarta Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) deployed a fleet of 5,000-liter tanker trucks to distribute clean water to residents affected by drought or experiencing water shortages during the dry season.

We are ready to help

Sukendar, Head of the South Jakarta Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) Task Force, stated that several complaints had gone viral on social media, including one from the Cilandak District. Residents in residential areas were experiencing drought because they still relied on groundwater.

"We've coordinated and handled the matter. Technically, the wells there are around 20 meters deep and have been under construction for quite some time," he said, Tuesday (9/15).

Sukendar explained that currently, handling the clean water crisis is focused on a number of points, including Pondok Labu and Cilandak Barat Urban Villages.

"We are ready to help supply clean water fleets, of course also in coordination with related elements such as the Fire Handling and Rescue Sub-agency and the South Jakarta Environmental Sub-agency," he explained.

He urged the public to remain calm and immediately report any issues related to water availability to the local neighborhood association (RT/RW) or urban village head. These complaints can then be forwarded to officials for prompt action.

Sukendar added that local governments in several areas have also provided facilities to increase the depth of drilled wells. Homeowners only need to provide the location and water storage.

Sukendar urged residents still using groundwater to switch to piped water services provided by the Jakarta Provincial Government through PAM Jaya. This will also ensure the area becomes a Groundwater Free Zone (ZOBAT).

"We also use PAM Jaya water to meet or assist residents' needs. This means water is always available in all weather conditions," he stated.
