Syafrin Leads Harvest in Gandaria Utara

The South Jakarta Mayor, Syafrin Liputo, led the vegetable and fish harvest at the New Puspita Makmur Farmers Group (Poktan) planting area, RW 09, Gandaria Utara Urban Village, Kebayoran Baru District.

Syafrin said that the development of urban farming in the New Puspita Makmur Farmer Group has implemented efficient, appropriate technology and has the potential to be developed in other areas.

"Residents use the land to develop fish and vegetable cultivation," he said, Wednesday (9/23).

Syafrin explained that one of the innovations implemented is the biofloc system for fish farming. This technology is believed to increase feed efficiency by up to 40 percent and doesn't require extensive land.

"This is quite good and can be developed because this technology does not require a large area and we can develop it in other areas or locations in South Jakarta," he explained.

According to him, residents also grow food crops using modern hydroponic methods which are more efficient in water use than conventional hydroponic systems.

"Community-based urban farming not only supports food security, but can also have an impact on the economy and efforts to address stunting," he stated.

Meanwhile, the manager of the New Puspita Makmur Farmer Group, Piet Jon Christian, explained that the biofloc system was chosen because the cultivation pond is located in a residential area.

"From the cultivation carried out, today we successfully harvested 250 kilograms of tilapia and 15 kilograms of vegetables in the form of spinach and celery," he explained.

Piet said that some of the fish harvest was marinated and some was sold raw.

"The harvest is also used to support stunting interventions by providing it to integrated health post," he said.
