Pram Inspects Krukut Tributary Dredging, Prepares Comprehensive Area Revitalization

The Jakarta Water Resources Agency (SDA) has initiated dredging works along the Krukut Tributary in the Kebon Melati area, Tanah Abang, Central Jakarta, concurrently with area restructuring and revitalization efforts.

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung stated that the 2.3-kilometer Krukut Tributary project requires comprehensive handling to tidy up the area.

"It won't be a half-hearted effort; we aren't just dredging for smooth water flow, but addressing it thoroughly," he expressed, during an inspection in Kebon Melati, Monday (9/28).

He noted that the Krukut Tributary is being dredged for the first time in nearly 60 years using three mini spider excavators, with silt removal handled in stages.

The Jakarta government will also revitalize the area through greening, retaining walls, and improved public sanitation facilities.

"We will build retaining walls on both sides, reorganize public sanitation facilities, and ensure the entire 2.3-kilometer stretch is greened," he explained.

As a global city, Pramono aims for Jakarta to model good environmental and social management, while urging residents to stop throwing garbage into rivers.

"Improvements are pointless if the habit of littering in rivers continues, as the streams will quickly clog up again," he explained.

Physical revitalization is slated to start early next year and wrap up by mid- or late 2028, with the Jakarta government ready to issue a location permit if necessary.

"Hopefully, by mid- to late 2028, this area will become a completely transformed space matching our shared expectations," he closed.
