Mud Clearing Drive in Kayu Manis Boosts Flood Prevention

Matraman District Head Muhammad Husnul Fauji noted that the dry season is ideal for clearing drainage to maximize capacity for the rainy season.

“All residential and arterial drainage channels are being cleared gradually to ensure smooth water flow," he expressed, Wednesday (9/30).

He explained that the 70-meter-long channel had sediment up to 30 centimeters thick. The dredged mud was bagged and hauled to the East Flood Canal (KBT) in Ujung Menteng, Cakung.

“This cleanup involved personnel from PPSU, Water Resources Task Force (SDA), Parks and City Forestry, Environment, Bina Marga, Water Body Waste Management, and Satpol PP units," he explained.

He noted that the work was done manually using sacks, crowbars, shovels, hoes, and strainers.

"The dredging removes sediment and trash that could block water flow," he added.

Kayu Manis Urban Village Head Endri Budiarto noted that the joint community service aims to speed up drainage improvements in the area.

He hoped that the cleanup would prevent flooding during the rainy season.

“We thank the Sub-district Head for deploying joint personnel for this mud-clearing operation in Kayu Manis," he stated.
