Starting January 1, 2027, the Jakarta government is expanding free public transport card (KLG) beneficiaries from 15 to 21 groups, adding job seekers, disability companions, MSMEs, and low-income students.
ERP proceeds must be managed transparently
Alongside fare adjustments for Transjakarta, Transjabodetabek, and LRT, this policy aims to reduce transit subsidies for wealthier groups and redirect them to low-income residents.
Jakarta Legislative Council Commission B Member Abdul Aziz emphasized that the policy must still protect low-income groups, noting that KLG expansion and fare adjustments require careful study with stakeholder input.
Public Enthusiasm for KLG Transjakarta Remains High“As long as it's properly studied and involves all stakeholders, public input must be accommodated by the Jakarta government," he expressed, Thursday (10/1)
In 2027, authorities will discuss the Jakarta Transportation Master Plan (RITJ) and Traffic Management draft bylaws, covering various transit modes, parking policies, and ERP.
ERP revenues will help finance public transport, easing the Jakarta overnment's subsidy load.
“ERP proceeds must be managed transparently to subsidize public transport like Transjakarta, Jaklingko, LRT, and MRT," he explained.
Aziz noted that Transjakarta fares are still being reviewed with the Transportation Agency, experts, and academics, hoping the study prioritizes public affordability to prevent overburdening residents.
“Hopefully, this study is well-measured and considers social conditions so residents aren't overburdened by the Transjakarta fare hike," he hoped.
