Jakarta Legislative Council Commission Chairwoman Yuke Yurike wants Jakarta government to revisit its Bantargebang landfill agreement with Bekasi, including the odor compensation scheme.
It’s time to sit down with the Bekasi government and recalculate the funding
Yuke noted that waste shipments have dropped thanks to the city's sorting rules.
“Because we send less waste to Bantargebang today, it’s time to sit down with the Bekasi government and recalculate the funding,” she expressed, Thursday (10/8).
Creative Financing Bolsters Bantargebang’s Modern TransformationShe hopes the talks will recalibrate the compensation based on lower waste tonnage and current city finances.
With trash volume falling, daily dump truck trips have dropped as well. Money saved from the deal can be redirected to improve waste processing elsewhere.
Yuke also pushed for more waste treatment alternatives, including using organic waste for Dharma Jaya's livestock farm in Ciangir and upgrading local TPS 3R (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) facilities.
“Transport restrictions must not end up causing new trash heaps in neighborhoods,” she warned.
Yuke called for tougher penalties for those who fail to sort their trash, arguing that current city rules lack a real deterrent effect.
She also pressed the Environment Agency to fix trash collection routes so sorted garbage does not end up mixed together again in the trucks.
“The Environment Agency needs to act boldly and proactively with new breakthroughs so Jakarta hits its waste cut goals before 2027,” she stated.
