Commission B Backs Growth Around MRT Stations

PT MRT Jakarta and the Jakarta Provincial Government have launched the Blok M Ultimate Phase design concept, aimed at transforming the Blok M-Sisingamangaraja area into an active, inclusive, and livable urban center.

Tailored to the conditions of each location

The transformation covers five key aspects: terminal revitalization, mixed-use development, improved pedestrian connectivity, new commercial destinations, and public open spaces.

The development adopts a transit-oriented development (TOD) concept and is expected to be completed in phases by 2029. The project will be funded through a creative financing scheme with strategic partners, without using the city budget (APBD).

Jakarta DPRD Deputy Chair Wahyu Dewanto expressed support for TOD development around MRT stations, saying the concept is important for improving public access to and from the stations.

"Each area naturally has its own characteristics," Wahyu said on Thursday (10/8).

He said the five development aspects planned for Blok M, including terminal revitalization, mixed-use development, and new commercial destinations, had been tailored to the area's potential.

"Development around other station areas will, of course, be tailored to the conditions of each location," he added.

Wahyu said MRT stations could drive growth in surrounding areas. He therefore called for clear government direction to ensure each area's potential is fully developed.

"Public infrastructure, including pedestrian facilities and other amenities, needs to be programmed soon. The same applies to public open spaces," he said.
