Jakarta Public Works Agency Head Heru Suwondo said the 1.8-kilometer road was designed to ease traffic in both directions.
Kelapa Gading-Pulogadung Link Road Targeted for Completion in 2027The road, which will connect Gading Pluit Hospital and Pulogadung Bus Terminal, is expected to reduce traffic on Jalan Perintis Kemerdekaan.
"The road is intended to ease traffic in both directions. So far, vehicles heading to central and northern Jakarta have had to use Jalan Perintis Kemerdekaan," he said on Friday (10/9).
Heru explained that, in addition to easing congestion, the road project aims to improve residents' mobility and access to public transport hubs.
He added that the area is set for further mass transit development, with a Perintis MRT Station planned in front of Pulogadung Bus Terminal.
Construction is currently ongoing on several sections, while work on the remaining sections is scheduled for 2027.
In terms of design, the road is planned to have a 50-meter-wide right-of-way. The carriageways on both sides will each be 15 meters wide, with five-meter-wide sidewalks on either side and a median in the middle.
Street lighting has also been installed along several completed sections. The Public Works Agency is also building a U-turn on the northern side to help traffic move more smoothly.
He noted that completion of the project depends on the resolution of land issues involving two plots currently undergoing a consignment process. Once the process is complete and the buildings are demolished, work on the final section can resume.
"We hope the road will be completed by June 2027," he said.
