Rano Requests Education Agency Hold Disaster Mitigation Training

Jakarta Vice Governor, Rano Karno, inspected three school buildings that have been revitalized, namely SDN Lebak Bulus 04, SMPN 299 Jakarta and SDN Cilandak Barat 08.

Rano explained that this rehabilitation is a natural thing because some of the school buildings being renovated are more than 50 years old, such as SDN Lebak Bulus 04, which was established in 1973 and SDN Cilandak Barat 08 which was established in 1976. Then, SMPN 299 is a new school that is intended to answer the need for access to state junior high schools in the South Jakarta area.
Lebak Bulus 04 Elementary School and Jakarta 299 Junior High School are five stories tall, built on a 4,100-square-meter plot of land on Jalan Puskesmas, Lebak Lubus, Cilandak. Meanwhile, Cilandak Barat 08 Elementary School is built on a 4,500-square-meter plot of land on Jalan Taman Wijata Kusuma V, Cilandak Barat, Cilandak.
The construction of SDN Lebak Bulus 04 and SMPN 299 cost approximately Rp 70 billion, while the construction of SDN Cilandak Barat 08 cost approximately Rp 31 billion.
School facilities have also been designed to be more complete and friendly for all students, equipped with access for people with disabilities, elevators, fire protection equipment, sports facilities, green open spaces, solar panel facilities, and air circulation and natural lighting arrangements.
However, with the addition of these facilities, Rano emphasized the importance of safety. Therefore, he requested that the Jakarta Education Agency conduct disaster preparedness training in the building area, including earthquake preparedness.
"Old schools in Jakarta probably had no more than two stories, but now they have almost five, even six. I've instructed the Head of the Health Agency to frequently practice anticipating disasters, even if we don't expect them, but it's better to be prepared," he emphasized.
