Jakarta Governor, Pramono Anung confirmed that the Water Resources (SDA) Agency's budget will not be cut. Instead, the Jakarta Provincial Government is continuing to accelerate improvements to flood control infrastructure, including long-overdue river normalization.
We're dredging all the gutters and rivers everywhere
Pramono said that river and water channel normalization and dredging in various areas of the capital are currently underway. Some of the rivers include the Ciliwung, Krukut, Cakung Lama, Mampang, and Angke rivers.
Pramono Inspects Mampang River Normalization to Mitigate Flood Risks"We're now resuming the normalization process, which hasn't been done for so long. We're dredging all the gutters and rivers everywhere," he said, Thursday (10/29).
According to him, this step is part of the Jakarta Provincial Government's efforts to increase preparedness to face weather changes with the potential for prolonged rain due to the La Nina phenomenon.
Pramono hopes that improving rivers and water channels will strengthen flood control efforts. This effort has also received support from the Jakarta Regional People's Representative Council (DPRD) to reduce the risk of flooding in several areas prone to inundation.
Regarding budget support, Pramono emphasized that the budget allocation for the Water Resources Agency will be maintained so that various flood management programs can continue to run.
"No budget cut for the agency," Pramono emphasized.
