500 Vegetable Seedlings Planted at Dukuh 2 Reservoir

A total of 500 vegetable seedlings have been planted at Dukuh 2 Reservoir in RW 03, Dukuh Urban Village, Kramat Jati Sub-district, East Jakarta. The activity marked the launch of the National Movement to Plant One Million Vegetable Plants, an initiative aimed at strengthening food security and encouraging communities to grow their own food.

In supporting food security programs

The movement was initiated by the Association of Indonesian Agricultural Engineers and Scholars (PISPI) in collaboration with the Jakarta Provincial Government, particularly the Food Security, Marine and Agriculture (KPKP) Agency, and the East Jakarta Administration.

Jakarta Government to Solve the Increase in Vegetable Prices

PISPI Chair for the 2026-2031 term Achmad Tjahya Nugraha said the collaboration with the Jakarta Provincial Government was part of a broader effort to plant one million vegetable plants in various regions across Indonesia.

He said the movement had received support from various parties, including the Indonesian Navy, Indonesian Air Force, Indonesian Army, universities, and several other institutions.

"This initiative aims to build synergies in supporting food security programs that start at the household level," he said on Wednesday (11/4).

Achmad noted that the movement would be carried out in stages and reach various regions across Indonesia.

"The types of plants grown will be adapted to the characteristics and potential of each region so they can thrive and provide benefits to local communities," he added.

East Jakarta Secretary Eka Darmawan said the administration had prepared 500 vegetable seedlings, including chili peppers, tomatoes, eggplants, and cabbage, to support the movement.

The seedlings were planted at Dukuh 2 Reservoir, while some were distributed to nearby residents to encourage them to grow vegetables in their own neighborhoods.

"The reservoir and the crops planted here can provide greater benefits, including helping to curb inflation," he said.

He explained that growing food crops such as chili peppers could be a simple way to help control inflation, particularly when the prices of basic necessities rise.

"I hope residents will take part in caring for the plants so the harvest can be put to sustainable use," he added.

Irman Riadi, head of RW 03 in Dukuh Urban Village, thanked PISPI and the Jakarta Provincial Government for bringing the program to his neighborhood.

He said the Anggrek Farmers Group in RW 03, along with other farmers' groups in Dukuh Urban Village, would help ensure the plants were properly maintained and cared for.

"We will certainly take care of the plants and water them regularly. Residents here will also be able to benefit from the harvest," he asserted.
