City to Build Three Underground Crossing Tunnel

In short time, Jakarta Provincial Government will build underground crossing tunnel to decrease pedestrian accident rate. Jakarta Governor Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo said so.

“I think there are 3 underground crossing tunnels, not JPOs. It’s underground tunnel to cross,” explained Jokowi, Thursday (5/8).

He also added that the construction is going to take long time since the degree of difficulty encountered is harder compared to the usual JPO construction. “It will take a long time,” Jokowi said.

JPO in Pasar Minggu Needs Urgent Repair

Meanwhile, Head of City Transportation Department, M Akbar said that his department is still studying strategic points for the underground crossing tunnel construction. Also, the construction will be integrated with other public transportation.

“It is still being studied regarding its construction points, certainly, it will be connected with Mass Rapid Transit (MRT),” Jokowi said.

Jakarta Provincial Government plans to build five underground tunnels for crossing, but there are already two targeted locations in Casablanca and Senayan areas. The construction will use 2014 City Budget with the budget amount that still needs to be calculated, because there must be a prior approval of the council.
