HIV/AIDS Prevention Targets Young Generation

The Indonesian AIDS Foundation continues to fight on HIV/AIDS over the last 20 years in Indonesia.

Based on the Health Ministry's data, the number of HIV case in Indonesia is reaching 198,219 and AIDS with 78,292 cases

"Based on the Health Ministry's data, the number of HIV case in Indonesia is reaching 198,219 and AIDS with 78,292 cases," disclosed Ninuk Widyantoro, Secretary of Indonesian AIDS Foundation, Sunday (8/28).

Ninuk revealed that since the last 20 years, her side continues to fight on HIV and AIDS case. "Our main focus is young generation aged of 20-24 years old. We also do prevention to the public," she expressed.

She went on the say that the case is like an iceberg phenomenon. The data of people living with HIV/AIDS (ODHA) that gathered is only a fraction or visible.

"While the basic part of a large iceberg cannot be detected yet," she expressed.

Ninuk added, since 1987-March 2016, the HIV patient the capital is highest than other provinces, with 40,500 cases. Then for the number of AIDS patient is ranked third with 8,105 cases.

Meanwhile, Upay, an Activist of Non-governmental Organizations (NGOs) who focuses on HIV/AIDS added his side keeps coordinating with related unit to give accompaniment to the patient.

"There are 26 NGOs in Jakarta that focus on prevention and accompaniment of HIV/AIDS patients," he closed.
