The rainy season in Jakarta is predicted to begin two months earlier compared to previous years. It is caused by La Nina phenomenon. As the result, if the rainy season starts in October, then this year is in August.

Denny Wahyu, BPBD’s official, said La Nina is also called as wet-dry season.

“Rainy season in Jakarta started in August,” he said, Thursday (9/29).

Rain intensity this year is 51 percent normal and 49 percent above the normal level. It means flood will occur in Jakarta.

Flood in Jakarta is caused by rain in mainstream, local rain, and tidal wave. If those three happened in the same time, big flood will happen in Jakarta.

This condition is assisted by Jakarta Provincial Government river and water channel normalization program. This program is able to minimize the flood and its impact. Nowadays, flood recedes in hours, not days.
