Flood Hits 1,253 Houses in Kampung Pulo

Water from the overflowing Ciliwung River inundates 1,253 houses in 7 RWs and 53 RTs at Kampung Pulo, Kampung Melayu Urban Village, Jatinegara Sub-DIstrict, East Jakarta, Friday (5/23). Although water level reaches two meters, the locals have yet to take refuge and prefer to stay in their houses.

Chief of RT 03/03 Kampung Pulo, Budi (40), said the residents have been warned about the water flood coming from Bogor, West Java, since Thursday (5/22) evening. This is because at 9 PM last night, water level in Katulampa Dam, Bogor, was already 100 centimeters or alert-III.

“The information was delivered from mouth to mouth as well as text messages and announced through the mosque’s speaker,” he told, Friday (5/23).

Flood Back to Inundate Kampung Pulo

After getting the information, the locals immediately evacuated their valuables to the attic of their houses. Meanwhile, flood water started inundating houses at around 2 AM.

According to Head of Kampung Melayu Urban Village, Bambang Pangestu, as many as 7,543 people or 2,775 families become flood victims.

There are no residents taking refuge although water level reaches two meters. They still doing their activities as usual. However, their mobility is helped using rubber boats which have been prepared by the urban village office,” he stated.
