MRT Project Requires Additional Budget

The budget for the construction of the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) Phase 1 (Lebak Bulus-HI Roundabout) is approximately Rp 2.56 trillion. The budget shortfall is expected to be delivered to the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) as lenders.

So we must strengthen the building construction to adjust the existing rules

PT MRT Jakarta Director, William Sabandar disclosed, there are three factors that causes a deficiency of the budget. First, it is about the new rules of Jakarta Provincial Government about a coefficient of earthquake.

"So we must strengthen the building construction to adjust the existing rules," he stated, at PT MRT Jakarta office, Tuesday (11/15).

Acting Governor Satisfied with Progress of MRT Project

The second is land acquisition problem for MRT project. Thus his party must make design changes at some points.

There is also about price prevailing at the time the contract that needs to be re-evaluated. His party had asked the BPKP and third party to conduct a re-examination related to the budget needs.

"So we need Rp 2.56 trillion due to such changes. Mr. Governor wanted the budget to be evaluated, that's why we want BPKP and third party to do audit," he told.

Currently, Jakarta Provincial Government has sent a letter to Transportation Ministry to conduct another negotiation to JICA.

"The budget in 2018 must be available. That's why we we request for additional loan," he uttered.

As known, the MRT project phase 1 gets loan from the Japanese government through JICA. For phase 1, total budget that required is Rp 14.178 trillion or 123.36 million Yen.
