Sailing Supervision in Seribu Islands Tightened

The supervision of traditional boat sailing in Seribu Islands will be tightened. Transportation Ministry and Jakarta Dept. of Transportation will monitor the manifest, worthiness, and life jacket equipment.

The boat must obey the regulation

General Directorate of Sea Transport for Transportation Ministry, Tonny Budiono, said Zahro Express case should be used as learning material by increasing the boat safety equipment. The traditional boat will not be erased because of that case.

"The boat must obey the regulation," he said, Monday (1/9).

Zahro Express Helmsman Named as a Suspect

According to him, the number of passenger must be based on boat manifest. Wheel man must inform to the harbormaster if the passenger number and manifest is not equal.

Meanwhile, Jakarta Head Dept. of Transportation, Andri Yansyah, stated his side keeps accommodating the traditional boats without ignoring the safety.

"We'll involve police personnel to monitor and supervise the boat," he stated.
