8 Betawi Icons Showcased at 2017 Art Stage Jakarta Week

Jakarta Tourism and Culture Dept. is showcasing eight Betawi icons in the 2017 Art Stage Jakarta Week 2017 at one shopping center in South Jakarta, August 7-13, 2017.
Hopefully, it becomes the door for Indonesia to be more global, especially Betawi culture
According to Gubernatorial Regulation No. 229/2016 on Implementation of Betawi Cultural Preservation, eight icons consist of ondel-ondel, kembang kelapa, gigi balang ornament, sadariah (locally known as baju koko), kebaya kerancang (traditional blouse), Betawi batik, kerak telor and bir pletok.
MRT Station Architecture Asked to Feature Betawi CultureJakarta Art Museum Management Unit Head, Esti Utami said, it is one opportunity to introduce Betawi Culture in the world arena.
"It is participated by participants from various countries. We hope Betawi culture can be familiar in foreign countries," she stated, Wednesday (8/9).
She added, it could open opportunities for Indonesian artists to work with other artists on the international scene.
"Hopefully, it becomes the door for Indonesia to be more global, especially Betawi culture," she hoped.
