MERS Virus Education Given to Jakarta Hajj Pilgrims

Jakarta DPRD Commission E, encouraging Jakarta Health Dept. to give education about transmission of MERS-CoV virus plus how to prevent it to all Jakarta pilgrims before conducting hajj to Mecca, Arab Saudi.

According to Ashfraf Ali expressed, it is important to be conducted thus they know exactly what can and should not be done during hajj.

"MERS virus can't be seen with the naked eyes. That's why we give education about prevention by providing important understanding" he expressed, Monday (8/14).

He urged they do not get too close to the camel while in Mecca. It is because the desert animals are suspected as a medium of transmission of MERS virus.

"Hence I ask the health teams to optimize the promotion and preventive efforts to them," he said.

He also suggested four government representatives who participated in this year's Hajj group to intensify monitoring of the pilgrims. Considering the availability of drugs is still a constraint faced by health teams from Indonesia.

"The team must routinely monitor the 15 groups of Hajj pilgrim from Jakarta. Collect on their aspirations," he closed.
