DRD Wants Intense Synergy with Peripheral Areas to Handle Flood

Local Research Board (DRD) wants Jakarta Provincial Government to intensify synergy with peripheral areas to handle flood.

DRD's Governance Division Commission I Member, Kharul Ishak Mahadi explained, Jakarta needs strategy to manage Jabodetabekjur thus flood handling can be optimal.

"It needs well cooperation and collaboration," he said, Thursday (12/14).

According to him, upstream to downstream watershed (DAS) management needs to be managed well.

"Neighborhood areas need to be involved in handling flood," he expressed.

He added, public role is also needed to be improved. Not only to maintain cleanliness, but public must be educated about reduction of groundwater used.

"Public must be involved in handling flood. They must be taught to throw trash in trash can, not in river or water channel," he affirmed.

Separately, Jakarta Water Resources Dept. Head, Teguh Hendrawan said, his side has also built reservoir, lake, retention basin to prevent flood.

"According to last year’s data, we have 108 reservoirs, lakes, and retention basins. Besides, normalization is done continuously," he stated.
