City Celebrates World AIDS Day at UNJ

City Health Dept. is holding World AIDS Day that falls every December 1 at Jakarta State University, Jalan Rawamangun Muka, Rawamangun, East Jakarta.

Based on Beritajakarta.id, the event with theme "I Dare, I Am Healthy" opens free healthcare service, free HIV/AIDS check-up, counseling and talkshow.

Jakarta Health Dept. Head, Koesmedi Priharto expressed, City Provincial Government commits to continue suppress the number of HIV/AIDS patients. It is because, until now, its number keeps increasing in Jakarta.

"Up to November 2017, the number of HIV/AIDS patients aged 4-50 years has reached 50,802 cases. We'll do education and socialization about danges of HIV/AIDS," he stated, Wednesday (12/20).

He explained HIV/AIDS is mostly triggered by free sex. In addition, it can also be transmitted through the use of hypodermic needles.

"Free sex is far from religious norms, should be avoided. Moreover, until consuming drugs, this is dangerous," he stressed.

He said, people should not be afraid or shy to check up their health condition. The reason, the treatment to inhibit the HIV virus is now pretty good.

"We have 101 Fasyankes engaged in HIV/AIDS virus. This service is available in puskesmas, RSUD, vetical hospital and private clinic," he told. 

Meanwhile, City AIDS Handling Commission Section Head, Kristina added, HIV/AIDS transmission is very vulnerable in adolescence. Hence, socialization needs to be done in schools and campuses.

"HIV/AIDS is our common problem. There must be synergy between people, social institutions, and government agencies," he stated.

As the information, in the event, the health booth from Gambir Puskesmas provides free medical check-up and Hepatitis C services, Kebayoran Baru Puskesmas  provides teenage health counseling, and Tambora Puskesmas provides sugar, blood and tension medical check-up services.
