City Secretary Inaugurated Compassionate Village Program in Pekojan

Jakarta Secretary, Saefullah inaugurated Compassionate Village program at Pekojan Urban Village Office, West Jakarta, Wednesday (3/21).

If it can give positive impacts, then we will develop it in other urban villages

In his welcoming speech, he reads Jakarta Governor message that governor is welcoming welas asih (compassionate) program to be applied in Pekojan Urban Village.

"I am welcoming welas asih program to be applied in Pekojan Urban Village, West Jakarta to initiate the launching of Pekojan Compassionate Village which is known as the only compassionate village in Indonesia. I hope this could be realized well," Saefullah said.

He admitted, Jakartans diversity is not only a precious asset for development, but it also can affected to social problems complexity. Thus Jakarta Government will apply welas asih program in all urban villages.

"If it can give positive impacts, then we will develop it in other urban villages," he stated.

Pekojan Urban Village Head, Tri Prasetyo Utomo explained, Compassionate Village is a program that owned by urban village that its residents have awareness in appreciating values of compassion, humanism and diversity.

"There are seven programs that will be applied. Those are compassionate school program, therapy for children with special needs program, and therapy corner," he mentioned.

Besides parenting program, he continued, there are also public literacy and reading corner, public space revitalization, volunteerism, communal work, and independent programs.
