Locals Enthusiastically Welcome Asian Games Torch Relay in C. Jakarta

Thousands of residents and students in Central Jakarta, welcomed the Asian Games torch relay in the morning. They hoped that Indonesian athletes could make achievements in Asia's biggest sports event.

The torch relay that is released from Jakarta City Hall was arrived in Kemayoran at around 8.45 AM. It was directly welcomed by Central Jakarta Acting Mayor, Premi Lasari.

"Thank you to all parties who enthusiastically welcomed the Asian Games party, especially the Kemayoran residents to be a good host. Please keep clean, as the participants will stay at the Athlete's Homestead," he expressed, Thursday (8/16).

Asian Games Torch Welcomed Merely at City Hall

The torch was then handed over to Jakarta Persija CEO, Gede Widiade to be carried from Akbar Kemayoran Mosque area towards Jalan Benyamin Sueb. Along the street, there were seen residents and students welcoming the torch that escorted by hundreds of people.

Then torch relay runners went to Jalan Utan Panjang - Jalan Suka Mulya Raya towards Galur Jalan Letjend Suprapto - Jalan Senen Raya - Jalan Kwini - Jalan Abdul Rahman Saleh- Jalan Pejambon Raya - Jalan Medan Merdeka Timur - Jalan Perwira - Jalan Veteran - Jalan Majapahit - Jalan Medan Merdeka Barat that was welcomed by State Secretary Ministry, Pratikno and ended at Monas to be handed over to the West Jakarta Administration.

Resti (25), one of Kemayoran residents was very proud to welcome the Asian Games torch. Moreover Kemayoran Sub-district became an important location in implementing the international event.

"Yes, we're also proud whereby we have athletes' homestead that will be occupied by Asian Games participants. This becomes our motivation to maintain environmental cleanliness. Hopefully Indonesian athletes can become champions and get a lot of gold," she hoped.
