Street Vendors in Kota Tua Controlled

Dozens of carriages and stalls belong to street vendors who still recklessly hawking in Kota Tua, Tamansari, West Jakarta, are again controlled by West Jakarta Administration, Wednesday (8/13).

The control is focused on street vendors who are selling in inappropriate places

In this operation, hundreds of joint personnel from local Cleanliness Sub-Department, Satpol PP, TNI, police, and mass organizations are dispatched as an effort to make the area stays clean and beautiful, as well as to enforce Bylaw No. 8/2007 on Public Order.

“We’ve cleaned and controlled the area before, but low awareness of residents and street vendors has made Kota Tua looks slum again. That’s why we hold this operation. The control is focused on street vendors who are selling in inappropriate places,” stated West Jakarta Mayor, Anas Effendi.

Street Vendors Make Kota Tua Chaotic Again

Besides controlling unruly street vendors, the officers are also cleaning some water channels in Fatahillah Museum Plaza that are clogging and spreading bad smell. For that, 15 dump trucks are deployed.

“Actually, every day we assigned 15 janitors as well as deployed one truck and five motor carriages in Kota Tua. But still, there are many trashes littered due to visitors’ low awareness in dumping trash to trash bins that we have provided in location,” uttered Head of West Jakarta Cleanliness Sub-Department, Wahyu Pujiastuti.

Meanwhile, Head of Tamansari Sub-District, Paris Limbong, informed there are 18 carriages and 10 stalls controlled in Kota Tua. To keep the area sterile from street vendors, officers will be put on guard every day. As for people who are littering, their ID Cards (KTP) will be confiscated and given warning letter.

“We establish surveillance post. Later, there will be officers to monitor and guard Kota Tua every day from morning until evening,” he told.
