Kemayoran Processes Organic Waste Into Compost

The Kemayoran Sub-district Environmental Executing Unit, Central Jakarta implements a system for processing organic waste at the temporary waste disposal site (LPS), Jalan Dakota V, Kebon Kosong Urban Village.

According to Rina Yuliana, Head of Kemayoran Sub-district Environmental Executing Unit, the results of processing organic waste that reaches hundreds of kilograms per day are still in the form of coarse and liquid compost.

"We use a chopper machine to process organic waste," she expressed, Tuesday (5/14).

While the Organic Waste Processing Officer, Nur Ahmad explained that crude compost is made in five stages, namely, sorting organic waste, using chopper machine, spraying EM4 liquid, shelter and sieving.

"Afterwards the compost will be placed at the shelter depot and then produce 3,000-3,500 kg of crude compost in a month," he explained.

Since April, he added, trials of making liquid compost have been carried out using a medium of one unit of composter trash bin.

"The liquid compost produced is also quite a lot, we package it with a bottle of used mineral water," he told.
