Contra Flow, Public Transport's Operational Permit will Be Revoked

We give warning letter two times. Then third warning is by revoking operational permit

Jakarta Transportation Department threatened to revoke the public transport's operational permit which often conduct contra flow in Kota Tua area, West Jakarta. Besides endangering road users, it also makes traffic flow chaotic.

According to Muhammad Akbar, Head of Jakarta Transportation Department, there are many Mikrolet minivans violating traffic rules by doing contra flow on Jalan Mangga Dua Raya towards Kota Station, West Jakarta. They conduct it to get the destination quickly. 

Basuki Threatens to Revoke Permit of Unruly Mikrolet

"The offenders must be dealt with firmly. This is very dangerous," he stated, Wednesday (9/3).

He asserted that public transport that does contra flow will be sanctioned or given stern warning in accordance with the applicable rules. Besides ticketed, the driver and the vehicle owner will get a stern warning for three times.

"We give warning letter two times. Then third warning is by revoking operational permit," he asserted.

He acknowledged besides public transport, such warning is also addressed to all road users. The offenders would get a speeding ticket in the field as affirmative action.

As known, Mikrolet minivan drivers near Pangeran Bus Stop are often passing the Transjakarta bus lanes through double-turn before the bus stop. They conduct it to pick up passengers in front of Kota Station and avoid traffic congestion in traffic lights in front Kota Station towards Asemka or Jembatan Lima. It is done because the driver does not want to take shortcuts through behind Shelter Kota. A number of public transports which often taking over and conducting contra flow are 39 (Kota-Mangga Dua-Pademangan) and M15A (Tanjung Priok-Kota).
