KPKP Educates 125 Residents About Tissue Culture System in Urban Farming

125 residents who represent schools, urban farming activists, and local residents of all Jakarta regions, including Thousand Islands regency, are invited to join urban farming coaching with tissue culture system at Lebak Bulus Plant Nursery, Jalan Pertanian Raya, Cilandak, South Jakarta.

This training is a part of our plan in greening 120 locations in Jakarta

Jakarta Maritime Agriculture and Food Security (KPKP) Department Secretary who also acts as KPKP Department's Agriculture Acting Division Head (Plt), Suharini Eliawati stated, this coaching is done to implement Governor Instruction (Ingub) No. 14/2018 about Urban Farming.

"This training is a part of our plan in greening 120 locations in Jakarta," s he said, Thursday (9/12).

Urban Experts from 40 Countries Visit Balkot Farm

In this coaching, participants are taught about nursery system and seeding of horticultural plants such as banana and orchid.

"They also learn about taking care horticultural plants and control the pests. Each participants will get souvenir of banana and orchid seeds from tissue culture system," she explained.

She hopes this coaching can encourage various sides to support green open space (RTH) existence and participate in taking care of it thus more RTH can be built especially in school, vacant land, and residents house yard.

"We hope participants can be better in taking care of the plants, manage it, have stronger sense of belonging, and applied this tissue culture system to double the seeds," she expressed.

Komariah, participant who represents SDN Negeri 17 Kemanggisan, West Jakarta, said that her side is ready to make school greener and implement urban farming with tissue culture system, especially for orchid.  

"Alhamdulillah, we are very grateful to participate in this coaching. I will implement it later in school. We choose to use orchid since it can improve our school's aesthetic," she explained.
