Tonight, Wayang Kulit Performance will Be Held at City Hall

Commemorating Grebeg Muharram 1441 H (Suran Agung 1953 Saka Jawa), Jakarta Government through Tourism and Culture Department (Disparbud) supports Wayang Kulit (Javanese Shadow Puppet) Performance at City Hall, Central Jakarta, this Saturday (9/14) night.

This event is opened for public to gather all artists, cultural practitioner, indigenous communities, and local residents

This event is done from collaboration between Jakarta Government with Nusantara Art and Culture Preservation Community, Indonesian Puppeteers Association (PEPADI), Paguyuban Ajigomas Plus Jabodetabek, and Widoro Kandang Traditional Art Studio.

Nusantara Art and Culture Preservation Community Leader, Glesos Yoga Mandira stated, Wayang Kulit Performance will tell story of ‘Kresno Duto: Sang Duto Pamungkas’ narrated by Ki Manteb Sudarsono, a famous puppeteer-narrator (dalang).

"This event is opened for public to gather all artists, cultural practitioner, indigenous communities, and local residents and encourage them to preserve and promote Wayang Kulit that has existed for a long time," he conveyed as quoted from Jakarta PPID Press Conference.

Before the event, Jakarta Governor, Anies Baswedan will invite community leaders, elders, cultural figures, and traditional art performers to have dinner together while having a chat and collect inputs regarding culture problems' root.

"Its result is an important point to be reviewed for Jakarta Main Thoughts of Local Culture (PPKD) which regulates about each regions that should have official development document in culture department in accordance with the Mandate of Law on Culture Promotion," he explained.

On the next schedule, Anies Baswedan and Committee Leader will give their welcoming speech, followed by prayer, moment of silence to pray for the former president, BJ. Habibie who died a few days ago lead by Anies Baswedan.

Then, Wayang Kulit Performance will be started at 8 PM after Wayang Krisna is handed over from Pepadi Pusat Head, Kondang Sutrisno, to Jakarta Governor, Anies Baswedan and from governor to puppeteer-narrator, Ki Manteb Sudarsono. It also invites Topan as the guest star for this event.
