A system of parking meter will be installed on Jalan Agus Salim, Central Jakarta, or known as Jalan Sabang, in the mid-September. Before being implemented, the new system would be tested for one week, which aims to reduce the revenue leakage of on-street parking on the roadside.

According to Sunardi Sinaga, Head of Jakarta Parking Management Unit, Sunardi Sinaga disclosed his party deliberately chosen Sabang area to find out the revenue leakage. This is because the location deemed prone to leakage. "The prospect is maybe 1 week for trial in Sabang area, and then continued with evaluation," he stated, Thursday (9/3).

During trial process, his party would find out the cause of revenue leakage over on-parking area, whether it is caused by parking attendant or motorists do not pay parking fees that does not fit with the ticket designation. "We'll find out the case deeply," he told.

According to him, trial is planned to involve private side and targeted to be implemented in some other areas at the beginning of next year by using the 2015 City Budget.

Sunardi expressed the level of on-street parking revenue leakage is actually evenly in all five areas in Jakarta. This is because the absence of the collection system in the city, which is still done conventionally. With the implementation of the parking meter system, its tariff will be charged per hour as off-street parking in order to increase on-street parking revenues. 

Similar thig was planned to be implemented in Kelapa Gading, North Jakarta and Pasar Baru, Central Jakarta. In accordance with Governor Regulation No. 64/2011, the amount of parking spaces (SRP) is reaching 12,550 locations where its amount spread in 400 points. Each year, from dozens of thousands of locations can only deposit Rp 26 billion. Whereas, if it is maximized, optimal results will be obtained.
