Bicycle Lane to Be Built along Surapati Park-City Hall

Jakarta Transportation Department plans to build a bicycle lane along Surapati Park-City Hall. Besides this lane, bicycle lanes will also be built in five municipalities. This plan is currently being reviewed.

The master plan already exists. But, we do not necessarily enforce it in one fiscal year. We also see the possible locations

Deputy Head of Jakarta Transportation Department, Benyamin Bukit, said that the review includes whether the bicycle lane to use green carpet like the one along Ayodya Park-South Jakarta Mayor office or to use separator like TransJakarta bus lane.

“The master plan already exists. But, we do not necessarily enforce it in one fiscal year. We also see the possible locations,” he stated, Saturday (9/13).

Especially for bicycle lane route Surapati Park-City Hall, it would be as long as five kilometers and pass Jalan Taman Surapati-Jalan Imam Bonjol-Jalan MH Thamrin-Jalan Medan Merdeka Selatan. Another bicycle lane that becomes priority is Kelapa Gading-MOI-MKG-Gading Nias.

“This year is only review. The physical construction probable next year,” told Bukit.

Thus far, the city has two bicycle lanes. They are located along East Flood Canal (KBT) and Ayodya Park-South Jakarta Mayor office. Another locations planned are on Jalan Salemba Raya, Pasar Jumat, Jalan Pemuda, Ancol, and Jalan Benyamin Sueb.

Upcoming bicycle lanes will be built on the right side of the roads, or precisely on the fast lanes. But if the roads were passed by TransJakarta, the bicycle lanes will be on the right side. Special signs will also be built along the bicycle lanes, so cyclists would not have to worry get collide with motorists.
