Preventing Flood, North Jakarta Builds Crossing Channels and Stilling Basin

North Jakarta Water Resources (SDA) Sub-department plans to build crossing channels (sodetan) from Gendong River in front of Bulak Cabe Pump House's inlet and channel on Jalan Taman to Cakung Drain River.

North Jakarta SDA Sub-department Head, Adrian Mara Maulana conveyed, these crossing channels are expected to prevent inundation at RW 04, Cilincing, North Jakarta.

"Crossing channel in front of inlet has length around 40 meters, while on Jalan Taman is around 60 meters. These channels will be equipped with sluice gate," he said, Wednesday (2/26).
According to him, crossing channel can accelerate water flow from settlement to Cakung Drain River.
"We estimate it takes maximum one month to construct the crossing channel," he conveyed.
Besides, his side also plans to install parapet on Cakung Drain River's retaining wall as long as 300 meters to prevent water from Cakung Drain overflowing into the settlements.
Recently, his side also builds stilling basin with size 2 x 2 meters with depth 4 meters on Forest and Park Department's land, not far from Bulak Cabe Pump House.
"Stilling basin will be used to hold water from settlement's drainage canals before being pumped into Cakung Drain River. Hopefully crossing channels and stilling basin can help preventing flood at RW 04 Cilincing," he closed.
