The Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan led a ceremony to commemorate the National Firefighter's 101st anniversary at Jakarta Fire and Rescue Agency Office, Jalan KH Zainul Arifin, Duri Pulo Urban Village, Gambir, Central Jakarta, on Sunday (3/1) morning.

On that occasion, he conveyed the importance of optimizing innovations that must be done by officers in efforts to prevent and deal with disasters in Jakarta.

"In this century, various fire incidents have occurred in our city. But, don't worry we already have the Fire and Rescue Agency that is always ready to serve people in Jakarta. As we know, potential threats continue to hit us thus we must always do innovation and seriously to think about and prepare the best steps for prevention," he expressed, as quoted by Jakarta PPID's press release.

He asserted that firefighter should have the will to continually improve themselves and learn to find ways to work towards change for the better.

"Hence, when a disaster occurs, the most of us away from the scene . But, in fact, you (firefighters) continue to fight, so we extend our highest appreciation and thanks," he explained.

In Jakarta, many incidents of fire were caused by human error in the use of fuel (gas or oil) or electricity short circuit. He hoped, they could minimize it through socialization and movement to change behavior in electricity management in all settlements to every village.

The governor also gave awards to a number of parties who have contributed to the fire prevention and rescue efforts in Jakarta area, namely:

1. Prof. Ir. Yulianto S. Nugroho, Ph.D, Vice Chairman of Jakarta Fire Communication Forum

2. Koesnanto, a member of Forest and Land Fire Disaster Management Task Force in Jambi Province on September 16 to October 3, 2019

3. Gatot Sulaiman, a participant of Skill Competition Singapura in 2019

4. Sihono, a public figure who cares about the fires of the Central Jakarta administration

5. Prof. Dr. Manlian Ronald A. Simanjuntak, an academic concerned with fire

6. Alm. Waryo B. Tasdik, a firefighter who died on the duty

7. PT. Citra Marga Nusaphala Persada, for their contribution by setting up a fire station in Warakas Urban Village, Tanjung Priok Sub-district, North Jakarta

"Thank you once again. Don't judge hard work as a burden but it is the spirit to save our brothers and sisters from natural disasters. So look at it as an honor, as it keeps the character, keep the integrity and work totality," he closed.
