Box Culverts Clogged, Kedaung Kaliangke Residents Flooded for Decades

The residents living around Kedaung Kaliangke Urban Village, Cengkareng Su-District, West Jakarta, are fret over the existence of box culverts and water channels at RT 04, 11, and 16/RW 16 which are clogged with mud and trashes. They are worried such a thing would trigger flooding.
The clogged box culverts make water that should have been flow into the Apuran River and disembogue to Angke River cannot flow smoothly. Thus, water easily overflows and inundates our village during rainy season
Chief of RT 04/03, Rizky (48), said his village is often hit by flood for decades. The water level could reach more than one meter when the river overflowed.

Responding on this matter, Head of West Jakarta Water Management Public Works Sub-Department, Pamudji, admitted that his ranks have dredged some of the box culverts.
“There are seven box culverts in Kedaung Kaliangke, four of them have been repaired (dredged). The rest box culverts will be dredged in the near future to minimize flood in that area,” he stated.
