City Collaborates with Press Council to Hold Vaccination for Journalists and Media Workers

Since journalists and media workers have higher risk of exposure to COVID-19, Jakarta Government builds collaboration with Press Council to hold COVID-19 Vaccination for journalists and media workers at Jakarta City Hall, on Wednesday (3/24).

We are grateful that today we can start vaccination program for journalists and media workers

"We are grateful that today we can start vaccination program for journalists and media workers. We, in Jakarta, remember that in early days, when we had testing skills, the parties we tested were our fellow journalists at City Hall to ensure the condition was safe. Today, we are entering the vaccination phase. That's why we are grateful that it can be done," conveyed Jakarta Governor, Anies Baswedan at virtual Press Conference on Implementation of COVID-19 Vaccination for Journalists and Media Workers, on Wednesday (3/24), as quoted from Jakarta PPID Press Release.

Through this vaccination, he expected fellow journalists can carry out their duties with sense of security because the risk can be more controlled thus they can remain healthy. Moreover, as the fourth pillar of democracy, journalists can still play a major role in delivering information that is educative, enlightening, and objective, even in the midst of pandemic.

"We appreciate the collaboration with Press Council. This program is the result of collaboration that has been running so far. When we collaborate, it is often invisible in front of public. But, when there is a very good relationship, mutually supportive interaction, then it creates programs that can provide good benefits for all," he stated.

Meanwhile, Press Council Chairperson, Mohammad Nuh expressed his appreciation for the implementation of vaccination program. This activity, he added, is a part of Press Council's efforts to provide protection to media workers, thus they can feel safe and comfortable while carrying out their daily duties.

"On behalf of Press Council and media colleagues, I would like to thank Jakarta Governor and all ranks of Jakarta Government. This activity can certainly be a good example for other provinces. The point is, Press Council gives full support to Jakarta Government in providing protection in form of vaccination to media workers," he said.

For information, Jakarta Government has provided 5,200 vaccines for 4,500 journalists and media workers whose data is collected by Press Council, while the rest covers Jakarta Government's internal media. The first dose is given from March 24 to April 1, 2021. This vaccination is given to 400 people a day, from 8 AM to 3 PM. Except on Friday, with total 300 people from 8 AM to 10 AM then continued from 1 PM to 3 PM.

Based on circular letter from Health Ministry, the second dose will be given 28 days after the first dose. Second dose vaccination is planned to be also held at Jakarta City Hall.
