City Gives Aid to Heroes’ Families

The National Heroes Day which falls on November 10 was filled with positive activities by Jakarta Provincial Government. As form of awareness to the heroes and their family, city government held gathering and distributed aid to the heroes and their family in form of cash money around Rp 1.5 million-Rp 3.5 million.

“It’s a tradition done by Jakarta Provincial Government every year. As a tribute and appreciation to the heroes who have rendered, we hold gathering with them and their family,” stated Deputy Governor for Population and Settlement Control Division, Syahrul Effendi, Tuesday (11/11).

This year, the gathering was held in the house of late Retired Rear Adm. Jahja Daniel Dharma, known as John Lie, on Jalan Jati Barat Raya, Pondok Labu, South Jakarta. In that occasion, the aid was symbolically given to national heroes' families of KH Abdul Wahid Hasyim, Bung Tomo, Drs Muwardi, Lt Suprapto, and Dr Saharjo.

According to Head of Social Empowerment Division for Jakarta Social Department, Susi Dwi Harini, Jakarta Provincial Government in a year gives aid twice to heroes’ wives and families as well as heroes of independence pioneers and their widows.

“The aid is given twice during the Independence Day and National Heroes Day. Based on the data, the aid this year is distributed to 6 heroes’ wives, 54 heroes’ families, 18 independence pioneers, and 97 independence pioneers’ widows,” she informed.

For information, the gathering was also attended by Social Affairs Minister, Khofifah Indah Parawansa. In that occasion, she emphasized on the importance of gathering with the national heroes and their family.

“Gathering is very important for us to reflect the purpose of the nation. By holding gathering, relationship between the successor generation and the fighters who have loved us to sacrifice for freedom would be created,” she uttered.
